Fa un parell de setmanes que la cançó dels Rolling Stones “Sympathy for the devil”, em persegueix ! jejejeje a les jam session del bar del Sam Pep, a la ràdio, pel carrer …. serà 1 senyal ? jejejeje

Ja que estic patint aquesta persecució he decidit investigar els orígens de la cançó i per què no, dedicar-li un post…

La cançó és de l’any 1968, i pertany al disc Beggars Banquet. I el tema crida l’atenció per la seva peculiar instrumentació, amb el músic africà Rocky Dijon donant un ritme de samba en la percussió, en la que també hi va participar Brian Jones. Keith Richards, guitarrista principal dels Rolling Stones, no només es va encarregar de la guitarra elèctrica sinó també del baix, fet que va delegar a Bill Wyman a les maraques. Nicky Hopkins va tocar el piano, i en les veus de fons hi participen Keith Richards, Brian Jones y Anita Pallenberg.

Aquests juntament amb els crits de Mick Jagger contribueixen a crear un autèntic ambient de ritus satànic, que farien que la cançó fos molt polèmica per la seva època. Els Stones ja havien despertat dures crítiques per les seves lletres sexualment explícites, o per rebre les primeres acusacions de satànics degut al nom de l’àlbum Their Satanic Majesties Request.

La cançó va ser escrita per Mick Jagger i el ritme composat per Keith Richards. Mick Jagger es va inspirar en la novela de Mijaíl Bulgákov El mestre i Margarita, que inicia de la mateixa manera que la cançó. El 1995 Mick Jagger en una entrevista deia que s’havia inspirat en Baudelaire per esciure la cançó (anava borratxo quan ho va dir ?) i que va voler escriure la cançó com si fos de Bob Dylan.

La cançó narra en primera persona (Mick Jagger / Llucifer) alguna de les majors atrocitats comeses pels homes, com la guerra dels Cent Anys, la Revolució Russa de 1917, la Segona Guerra Mundial, l’assassinat dels Kennedy (tant d’en John com d’en Robert), entre d’altres !

Va haver un altre fet que va marcar aquesta cançó que va ser el problema que va haver al concert d’Altramont (Califòrnia) que van oferir els Stones, on van contractar els Hells Angels com a personal de seguretat. Mentre el grup interpretava el Sympathy for the devil, va començar una tangana davant de l’escenari que va acabar amb la mort del jove de 18 anys Meredith Hunter en mans dels Àngels de l’Infern. Tot i que la mort es va produir mentre el grup interpretava la cançó Under My Thumb. La cançó de Sympathy for the Devil van deixar-la de tocar durant 8 anys en públic per culpa d’aquest incident.

Després de veure que Bill Gates ha estat eliminat del SERP de Google quan busques devil… jejejeje només queda agrair a Google que m’hagi brindat aquest PR 4… i res… a continuar escoltant aquesta meravellosa cançó… us deixo amb la lletra i amb la famosa versió dels Guns&Roses de la cançó !
